Emily

Emily, born Queenstar Anaafi, is one of the leading characters on the YOLO TV Series. Queenstar’s role involves a young beautiful rich girl, well-raised by responsible and caring parents, turning her into a well-groomed adolescent.

‘If she’s out, she’s with either Cyril or at the Youth Corner, and her parents are very involved with her, so Emily in her own character is not a bad girl.’

In the YOLO TV series (Seasons 1 and 2), Emily is pursued by Cyril (considered next) and eventually falls for her first love, although in upcoming Season 3, their relationship turns to fall on hard rocks. In Season 2, Cyril takes a turn away from Emily and focuses on a beautiful student he tutors.

Things go south, and Cyril ends up head-on with highly-classified rhetorical questions from Emily.

Series relationship aside, Emily relates how being a part of the cast for YOLO has helped her get in touch with her inner personality.

In her own words:

“I used to be a very shy, reserved person, but because of my involvement, my interaction with the people on set, I’ve been able to overcome this.”

Indeed, asked to play the role of the rich kid on the block comes with a lot of perks and requires getting up to speed to being what the writers and directors envision for the character. Emily plays her role well, and for many, concentrating on the show gets a little bit harder than usual sometimes, as Emily’s beauty and smartness keep swaying them.

In the show, Emily represents, to some extent, the exact opposite of Drogba, as the cautious, careful and forward-thinking adolescent, who in many situations, weighs her options before taking a step, especially in issues relating to her relationship with Cyril and her love life.

Cyril

Cyril, born as Aaron Adatsi, remains the center of the YOLO TV series and happens to be one of the characters tossed about in many situations, from relationships to hanging out with friends.

Cyril, in YOLO, was raised by Auntie Enyonam (discussed below). Auntie Enyonam learned her lessons the hard way, after getting in a relationship with Pusher and ended up being pregnant.

Unfortunately, Cyril grows up in a divided family, with his biological dad being an auto-mechanic and mom, a boutique manageress.

If an occasional visit by Cyril’s dad was welcome, the whole twist between Enyonam and Pusher wouldn’t have been, as portrayed in the show, tense and unpredictable.

Cyril sets his eyes on this young, beautiful girl from a relatively wealthy family, namely, Emily. He strives to win Emily’s heart, going as far as succumbing to gravity and going on his knees to apologize to Emily for a bad move taken.

Cyril: “Personally, I think YOLO is full of morals. Basically, YOLO is adolescent reproductive health, and I think the target is the youth

Although his apology takes effect and starts curing Emily’s heart, the likely ‘placebo’ effect she feels for her first love wouldn’t last as Cyril can’t help it but entangles himself with a student of his.

As Richard Castle would put it, Cyril is ‘ruggedly handsome’, which makes him a worthwhile prey for many young ladies looking for a strong, smart and handsome guy with great brains to be by their side.

3 news claims it has sighted a letter “written to Commanding Officer of the Pwalugu Police Training School by COP Beatrice Vib-Sanziri, the Director-General in charge of Human Resources.”

And the letter “said all the recruits who submitted only WASSCE certificates should be referred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) “for further vetting”.

“However, all those who submitted BECE, NVTI, NABPTEX and City and Guilds certificates are to return home. The number of affected recruits at Pwalugu alone is 835.”

“The action is said to have been directed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu,’

Pictures from Ghana’s new president Nana Akufo-Addo’s first day at work

The new Ghanaian President, Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday morning, the 9th day of January, 2017 started work at the presidential palace by first inspecting a guard of honour mounted by the Ghana Armed Forces.

Nana Addo arrived at the Flagstaff House at exactly 9am. See pictures below:

Nana Akufo-Addo, the newly sworn-in Ghanaian President has been accused of plagiarising a portion of former American president George Bush’s 2001 inaugural speech.

New President Of Ghana Plagiarised the Speeches of Ex-US Presidents allegedly - Video

Akufo-Addo was sworn in as the 54th president of Ghana, a country described as the “gold standard for democracy in Africa” taking over from John Dramani Mahama. But the new president’s inauguration was blighted by the accusation of directly lifting from Bush’s own inauguration speech.

In his speech, Bush said: “I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens building communities of service and a nation of character.”

Akufo-Addo said: “I ask you to be citizens: citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens building your communities and our nation. Let us work until the work is done.”

Another portion where Nana Addo urged the citizenry to believe in their strength in tackling challenges seems to have been lifted from Bill Clinton’s 1993 inaugural speech. Per checks, the only difference in the statement was the replacement of ‘Americans’ with ‘Ghanaians’.

“Though our challenges are fearsome, so are our strengths. Ghanaians have ever been a restless, questing, hopeful people…”

This is not the first time West African presidents would be accused of plagiarising American presidents’ speeches.

In September 2016, President Muhammadu Buhari came under fire from critics after admitting part of his “Change Begins With Me” speech was copied from US President Barack Obama’s 2008 victory speech. His aides put the blame on an unnamed “overzealous speech writer.”

In a speech as he took office, the President said “I will not let the good people of Ghana down.”

“I pledge to do my best to move this country to higher level of development; I will not let the good people of Ghana down. We should move on to deepen our democracy.”

The 72-year-old president also promised to work with Ghana’s neighbours “to ensure stability on the African continent.”

Akufo, a lawyer who served as Ghana’s foreign minister in 2008, vowed to build on the West African country’s economic success.

Akufo-Addo got 53.85 per cent of the votes in Ghana’s September election to defeat incumbent John Mahama who got 44 per cent of the votes.

The peaceful transfer of power from ex-president Mahama is highly affected.

Fourteen African heads of state including Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari attended the ceremony in Accra.

Ghanaian president-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, has appointed Saratu Atta as a personal assistant as he ramps up activities ahead of his inauguration Saturday.

Ms. Atta, 53, is a former wife of Nigerian politician, Femi Fani-Kayode. She has served as an executive aide to Mr. Akufo-Addo since 2009, a statement on the president-elect’s website said Wednesday.

She is amongst the three women of a total 12 appointees so far named by Mr. Akufo-Addo, but the statement did not provide further details about her new role.

The two other women are Akosua Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff to the President, and Clara Tia, a presidential staffer.

A brief citation of Ms. Atta said that she is a graduate of the University of Warwick, UK, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and International Studies.

She worked as a Securities Trader at First Securities Discount House in Lagos, Nigeria from 1993 to 1997, and went on to establish her own security printing company in Lagos.

She is a member of the New Patriotic Party, one of the two major political parties in Ghana, and served as the party’s campaign secretary since 2008.

She married Mr. Fani-Kayode, Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation, in 1987 and bore him a female child named Folake in the same year. They parted ways around 1989 when Mr. Fani-Kayode found a new wife, Yemisi Wada.

MMM blamed for financial misery in Ghana – Details

MMM blamed for financial misery in Ghana – Details

People in Ghana have lost money by investing in a Russian-backed Ponzi scheme, Marvodi Mondial Movement or MMM which was introduced in Ghana after it was banned in Nigeria.

MMM blamed for financial misery in Ghana - Details

Ghana’s financial sector is currently struggling to recover from a major financial crisis involving Ponzi investment schemes. Millions of Ghanaians have been denied access to their savings after investing in micro-finance companies. They had been promised huge returns on their capital over a short period of time, but now they’re pleading with Ghanaian President John Mahama for a refund of their investments.
“Many people are dead and many are on their sick bed, because of this money [scandal]. It’s not easy for us, Mr. President. Pay our money to us because the Bank of Ghana is under you,” said businessman Haruna Seidu.
These schemes were at the center of the presidential election campaign in Ghana. The incoming New Patriotic Party government has promised to reimburse all who have lost money with these investments. Ghana’s central bank has also revised its rules to discourage such Ponzi schemes in future. Its deputy governor Johnson Asiamah said they were also receiving help from Germany on how to better protect small investors.

“With the passage of the Ghana deposit protection bill, I am happy to inform you that the Bank of Ghana in collaboration with the German government will soon establish a deposit protection system in Ghana for the first time in our history, This will ensure protection for small depositors and enhance the safety of the financial system,” said Asiamah.
New scheme
Reports of a new investment scheme called the Marvodi Mondial Movement have recently emerged under which clients are proimsed a return of 30 percent in less than a month.
The Russian-owned scheme been banned in some African countries including Nigeria. Financial analyst Osei Amankwah says it should be thoroughly investigated.
“The bank of Ghana shouldn’t allow this to cascade. Obviously if it was bad for Nigeria, it’s not going to be any good for Ghana,” he said.
The Marvodi Mondial Movement said on Twitter that their scheme in Ghana was a simple system in which a community of voluntary members provide and receive help. However, some Ghanaians are wary of these schemes.
“I would not be interested in it because I am afraid of losing my money at the end,” said Bernice Asiedu, a resident of Accra.
The Marvodi Mondial Movement isn’t officially licensed to operate in Ghana and officials have said that they will launch a probe into the group.

See the 10 countries of the world that banned Christmas

1.England

Oliver Cromwell overthrew the monarchy and oversaw the execution of King Charles I during the English Civil War, but for many the fiery Puritan leader is better known for banning mince pies.

Christmas and the celebration of saints’ days was discouraged – if not prohibited – in England between 1647 and 1660 as the country was ruled by a puritanical movement that considered the feast day ‘giving liberty to carnal and sensual delights’.

They mandated that shops had to remain open and cracked down on celebrations, leading to violent clashes on the streets of London and other cities. Life returned to normal after Cromwell’s death in 1658 and the Restoration two years later.

2. Brunei

Brunei banned public celebrations of Christmas and imposed fines and jail terms for those caught celebrating the festival in 2014, an edict that was reiterated in 2015 by religious leaders writing in local newspaper, the Brunei Times.
“These enforcement measures are … intended to control the act of celebrating Christmas excessively and openly, which could damage the aqidah [beliefs] of the Muslim community,” they said.
It specifically banned the wearing of Christmas costumes such as Santa hats, the lighting of candles, the signing of religious songs and putting up decorations such as Christmas trees. The Sultan of Brunei, a billionaire who owns hotels across the world, introduced a strict interpretation of Sharia law on the territory last two years.

3. Tajikistan

The reclusive former Soviet republic country’s education ministry issued a decree in December outlawing Christmas trees, the exchange of presents, fireworks and festive meals.

Sky News reported that while the restrictions in 2015 are the strongest yet, anti-Christmas regulations have been getting increasingly restrictive over the last few years in the Muslim-majority country.

In 2014, the Tajik government banned Father Christmas and three years earlier a man dressed as Santa was stabbed to death in the capital on New Year’s Eve. Tajikistan also bans Halloween and in 2013 and 2014 police rounded up revellers dressed as zombies and vampires.

4. Saudi Arabia

Little surprise that Saudi Arabia, a theocracy governed by the strict Wahhabi doctrine of Islam, is not a big fan of Christmas.

In the past, expatriates had quietly celebrated in the comfort of their own homes (and will likely continue to) but rumours of illicit Christmas parties prompted state media in January to reiterate that celebrating the festival was not allowed in the kingdom.

It went further by forbidding Muslims from greeting non-Muslims at Christmas, with a Saudi scholar saying:
“If they celebrate the birth of God’s son and you greet them… it means you endorse their faith.”
In 2015, it emerged that some expatriates in Saudi Arabia were going further, tweeting pictures of their Christmas trees and children dressed for the occasion.

5. North Korea

Back in 2013 North and South Korea almost went to war after the latter erected a giant Christmas tree at the border of the two countries.

North Korean state media said that the huge Christmas tree – which was lit up in a town close to the border and clearly visible from the North – was an act of psychological warfare.

North Korea does not officially ban Christianity but is ranked among the most hostile countries in the world towards Christians.

To complicate matters, December 24th – Christmas Eve – is celebrated in North Korea as the birthday of the Sacred Mother of the Revolution, Kim Jong Il’s mum.

6. Albania

Albania not only banned Christmas but religion as a whole in 1967, making the country the first and only constitutionally atheist state.

The ban on any and all religious worship was only lifted after the fall of the Communist regime in 1990, when both Christians and Muslims were able to practice for the first time.

During the Communist years many priests and religious leaders were rounded up and jailed, but the pious celebrated Christmas and Easter nonetheless in private. They would have cake or chicken at meal times as a way of marking the days.

7. USA

Puritans, up to their usual tricks, attempted to ban Christmas when they arrived in the New World in 1620. They branded the festival ‘Foolstide’ and decreed that the only religious day that should be celebrated was the Sabbath.

The Puritans managed to keep the ban going until the middle of the 18th century, at one point even arresting the Sir Edmund Andros, the Governor of Massachusetts, when he tried to sponsor a Christmas service.

8 CUBA

Fidel Castro announced the Cuban government as atheist as soon as it took power in 1959 but it wasn’t until 1969 that the Communist leader actually banned Christmas, as he wanted the population to stop partying and start working on the sugar harvest.

It was Pope John Paul II who eventually persuaded the now late Cuban leader to lift his ban during a visit in 1998, when Castro agreed to make the day a national holiday.

9. Somalia

Somalia banned Christmas in 2013 when a directive from the Ministry of Justice and Religious Affairs stated that no Christian festivals could be held in Somalia.

Sheikh Ali Dhere, the country’s director of religious matters, called a press conference a week before Christmas to make the announcement.
“We alert fellow Muslims in Somalia that some festivities to mark Christian days will take place around the world in this week. It is prohibited to celebrate those days in this country,” he said.
It was the first time that the Somali government had banned Christmas since the country’s government collapsed in 1991. In 2015, the government in Mogadishu went further, banning New Year’s Eve celebrations and ordering the police and army to disperse any celebrations it found.

10. China

Christmas and Christianity as a whole were banned in China after 1949 but you would not know that if you were to visit during the festive season today.

China goes mad for Christmas, and it is not just Chinese Christians that get in on the act – while Christmas is not a national holiday it is a widely celebrated festival day, akin to New Year, with fireworks and fancy dress in abundance.

While Santa Claus costumes and hats are a common sight on the streets of Shanghai or Beijing during Christmas, other costumes are less traditional – devil horns, for example, are sold widely to mark the day.

Couples also like to treat Christmas as akin to Valentine’s Day, exchanging gifts and going out for romantic meals.
Local media reported in 2012 that, like in the West, the Chinese use Christmas an opportunity to hit the shops, with Christmas Eve the biggest shopping night of the year for some retailers.

Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh Says He Will Not Step Down

Gambian President, Yahya Jammeh said he would not step down. He also condemned mediation by West African regional bloc ECOWAS that aims at getting him to leave power after he lost the election to Adama Barrow.

Gambia's President, Jammeh Heads To Supreme Court, Headed By A Nigerian

The comments on state television late on Tuesday, the 20th day of November, 2016 were a hardening of the veteran president’s position after days in which hopes mounted he could be persuaded to hand over power at the end of his mandate on Jan. 18, when Barrow is due to be inaugurated.

“I am not a coward. My right cannot be intimidated and violated. This is my position. Nobody can deprive me of that victory except the Almighty Allah,” Jammeh said.

“Already the ECOWAS meeting was a formality. Before they came, they had already said Jammeh must step down. I will not step down,” he said.

Jammeh initially accepted the results of an election whose outcome was seen across Africa as a moment of hope. He is accused by human rights groups of the detention, torture and killing of perceived opponents during his 22-year rule.

On Dec. 9, he reversed his position and said he would challenge in the country’s Supreme Court the results of an election he said was riddled with irregularities.
